Do we actually need a Smartwatch? Yes we do, I say! Should I buy the Apple Watch? Not the way it is now I think. Don’t get me wrong, the Apple Watch is a beautiful, solid and well designed personal device. Why then do I think the Apple Watch isn’t the BIG gamechanger yet. Let me mention the most important issues other than the very high price.
Apple says the Apple Watch battery lasts about a day. In my opinion this is a vital mistake. I expect a 21st century watch to be solar powered and not require a daily recharge and in the worst case just a quick wireless refill once a week.
The Apple watch has no 4G connection other than the one transfered from your iPhone. I would like to be able to leave my iPhone at home and still receive messages on my Apple Watch. Then write messages with SIRI or make a smartwatch call without the need of a connection with my iPhone.
To make the Apple Watch a real success it is essential to have a wide variety of popular Apps available. Apps like Whatsapp and Skype are not yet available.
There is no option to communicate via video, because Apple has forgotten to integrate a front camera in the Apple Watch.
If Apple wants to enter the Sport /Fitness /Health Tracker market, it is of utmost importance that the Apple Watch is Waterproof. It must be able to endure in water and in very humid environments for prolonged times.
